They sold black PS5 cases while encouraging Sony to sue them, although it didn’t take that far.
PlayStation 5 is being a success in sales despite the lack of stock, a problem that although it will last until 2022, will begin to alleviate towards the second half of the year. The good commercial performance of the console has led many peripheral and component companies to look for business opportunities with Sony desktop users.
The case company had shown a defiant attitude towards SonyOne of these companies has been dbrand, a Canadian company specializing in housings for mobile phones, consoles and peripherals that launched some matte black PS5 covers that could be replaced by the white ones that are fitted as standard. The housings enjoyed a big success among new PS5 users.
In the letter, Sony proposes to resolve the matter without initiating legal action.Dbrand was not the first company to make this type of housings, different companies bet on different colors for the new PlayStation, but when they saw threats by Sony, they stopped their production, returning the money of the orders to the consumers. Nevertheless, dbrand didn’t seem to have any fear of the Japanese, the company not only continued with its business, but encouraged Sony to sue them.
The company has maintained its defiant attitude all this time, but they have finally ceased the sale of carcasses, although Sony did not need to enforce the lawsuit, as they have explained in a post in reddit, have received a letter from Sony asking them to stop selling their cases, and to avoid going to court, have announced that they were completely ceasing production: “Darkplates is dead. Thanks, Sony”, they titled the post. In the letter, Sony’s lawyers explained that despite concerns about the adopted slogan of “go ahead, sue us,” they preferred to offer the possibility of resolving the matter without initiating legal action.
