Apty Alaudinov, an assistant to the head of Chechnya, commander of the Akhmat special forces, expressed the opinion that the three army corps accumulated by Ukraine are not enough to implement the plan to seize Crimea.
“Only with the forces of Ukraine that she has gathered at the moment, she is absolutely not in a position to capture Crimea, to do something so supernatural,” Alaudinov said on the Rossiya 1 TV channel on Wednesday, April 5.
According to the commander of the special forces, with the assembled forces, Ukraine can strike only in one area. At the same time, he called for caution, since an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) on some areas could cause significant tension and require additional efforts from the Russian side.
On February 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian forces were ready “morally and technically” to seize Crimea. In turn, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin cannot imagine the circumstances of the return of the Crimea, stressing that the peninsula is an integral part of Russia. In addition, he noted that the security of the region is reliably ensured.
Crimea became a Russian region in March 2014 following a referendum following a coup in Ukraine. Kyiv still considers the peninsula its territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of the republic voted for reunification in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
