The Board of Directors of the College of Physicians of the Region of Murcia approved this Monday, in an ordinary meeting, to request the Government of the Autonomous Community to activate – or urge, where appropriate, the competent authorities – the necessary procedures for the implementation of a home confinement, with a duration of at least two weeks and extendable depending on the evolution of the pandemic.
The College of Physicians considers the implementation of this measure urgent after the Covid-19 figures registered in the Region in recent days, both in daily infections and in hospital admissions and in Intensive Care Units and the number of deaths.
Although the College understands that «home confinement entails a deprivation of rights unwanted by any citizen or institution, the serious epidemiological reality in the Region and the extreme situation of the regional Health to face this wave of the pandemic require the taking of effective decisions to stop the spread of the virus.
This organization also asks the Administration to provide the necessary aid to the most sensitive sectors and groups that may be affected by stricter measures.
Appeals to the population
The College also asks citizens to maintain a responsible home confinement, avoiding social interactions as much as possible and scrupulously complying with contagion prevention measures: correct use of the mask, frequent hand washing, ventilation of closed spaces, avoid crowds and maintain physical distance. Likewise, the College insists that it is essential to comply, without fissures or exceptions, with isolations and quarantines.
“The situation is very serious and we have to be aware that the fight against the virus implies the effort and commitment of all to avoid more victims, suffering and sanitary collapse,” continue sources from the College in a statement.
Regarding vaccination, they recognize the “strong commitment of professionals in the fight against the pandemic. The medical group is one of the first groups motivated to get vaccinated, setting an example, generating confidence in vaccination and promoting citizen participation.
“From the College, we extend this call to the population to get vaccinated, which will help to stop the spread of Covid-19, and we send them a message of reassurance, given that all the available evidence from clinical trials With the new vaccines for SARS-COV-2, they show positive efficacy and safety results that are gradually leading the regulatory agencies to approve their use. Despite the fact that the vaccination of the population will be a great help against Covid-19, we should not neglect, in any case, the usual prevention measures, ”concludes the College.
The College of Nursing appeals to “self-confinement”
For its part, the College of Nursing of the Region of Murcia begged the population to carry out a “responsible self-confinement” to stop the increase in Covid-19 infections.
After a meeting of the Governing Board of the nursing institution, the College called for “strict compliance with the measures and recommendations approved by the administrative and health authorities,” and asked residents to avoid exposing themselves to risky situations.
“In recent weeks we are witnessing a continuous increase in infections that can lead to emergency situations and collapse in our health institutions since the occupation of hospital beds and ICU admissions continues to increase day by day. The College, aware of the seriousness of the situation and ensuring not only the health of citizens but also health professionals who are in the front line of battle, asks all citizens to act from responsibility and contribute with our behavior to stop the expansion of this third wave of Covid-19, “said the College of Nursing in a statement.
