The Civil Guard has carried out investigations against a resident of the Badajoz municipality of Valdecaballeros for his alleged involvement in five forest fires within said municipal area.
Specifically, the fires occurred for two weeks last August in different parts of the municipality and affected 261 hectares of scrubland, bushes and grass, burning a warehouse that stored bales of straw.
To put them down, in addition to coordinators of the fire extinguishing service of the Board, territorial patrols of the Civil Guard, Local Police and Environmental Agents, it was necessary to use several motor pump trucks, helicopters, seaplanes, bulldozers and Pick Up vehicles. , highlighting the collaboration of an undetermined number of residents of the town.
From the visual inspection carried out and investigations carried out by the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard of Herrera del Duque, as well as statements obtained in the course of the investigation to be able to locate the origin of the fire, as well as the causes, the agents obtained enough evidence this past October in order to identify the person responsible for the criminal actions.
The alleged perpetrator turned out to be a local resident, who set fire to the forest mass by applying a direct flame to the vegetable fuel. For now motivations are unknown that led him to this, the Civil Guard has reported in a press release.
The Civil Guard has recalled the need to adopt preventive measures to carry out agricultural and forestry work dictated by the Government of Extremadura in Decree 52/2010 of March 5, which approves the Community’s Forest Fire Fighting Plan. Autonomous Community of Extremadura (Infoex Plan) and regulates the use of fire and activities that may cause fires.
The proceedings instructed have been sent to the courts of corresponding instruction of Herrera del Duque and Jerez de los Caballeros, respectively.
