Tomorrow will make a technical stop at the station of the Rambla del Albujón to replace a mechanism
The Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) will improve the pumping infrastructures of the Campo de Cartagena drainage network, for which it will carry out a technical stop at the Rambla del Albujón pumping station to replace a boiler, the basin agency reported . This pumping is the main mechanism to prevent the entry of nutrients into the Mar Menor, although until now it does not have enough capacity to retain all the flow that circulates through the promenade. Breakdowns are also frequent.
The purpose of the anti-ram boiler is to absorb and compensate for overpressures and transient voids that may occur in the pumping-impulsion station assembly, minimizing effects such as possible breaks and failures in the system. The new boiler represents an increase in the pressure absorption capacity and will have a capacity of 20 cubic meters, higher than the current one.
The stop is scheduled for this Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., to change the boiler, says in a note. On May 25, 2020, the CHS began operating this infrastructure. Last year, the volumes pumped were 884,424 cubic meters; and in the following hydrological year (2020-2021) this volume almost doubled, which is destined for irrigation, once it has been diluted with water from the Transfer.
The current pumping cannot capture all the volume that circulates through the Albujón ravine towards the lagoon.
The pumping captures surface and groundwater. Some come from natural runoff, and others from outcrops due to the high water table of the aquifer. It also intercepts underground flow through a network of drainage pipes. It is not possible to specify in what proportion, but it is proven that most of the volume that is intercepted is loaded with nitrates.
