Asmodee announced the creation of a new board game inspired by the Netflix TV series The Queen of Chess. The game, however, is not about chess, thus disconnecting itself from what is proposed in the series.
The Queen’s Gambit: The Board Game is based on a series of programmed movements, using which you must always keep away from the opponent, anticipating it at least 3 steps. Each player has a piece, called Gambit, and by moving around the game board he must be able to get hold of the various chess pieces.
The key to the game is to plan carefully their moves with 3 turns early than the opponents, placing the cards in front of them. Players must, therefore, be able to anticipate the moves of others and act accordingly to counter them. At the end of the game, the player with the most chess pieces wins.
Last year Netflix launched The Queen of Chess, which turned out to be a series of great success. Thanks to the wonderful interpretation of Anya Taylor-Joy, who will soon return as a voice actress for Peach in the new movie Super Mario, and a compelling and well-structured storyline, the series has earned a place of honor among the most viewed in 2020.
The sale of chessboards has soared by over 1000%, and many professional chess players have commented that The Queen of Chess is able to optimally capture the feeling you get in the game.
At the time of its release, the series was seen by over 62 million viewers and won 11 Primetime Emmys, which was nominated for an Emmy in 2021. Despite the huge success, however, Anya Taylor-Joy was not cast for a second season, which apparently will not be produced, considering the story over.
The board game inspired by The Queen of Chess can be played for 2 to 4 players, and a game lasts on average 15 minutes. The release is scheduled for next month, with a retail price of $ 29.99.
