15 catering establishments of the municipality participated
The Casa Roberto de Lorca restaurant was the winner this Monday in the tasting of the rice recipes with which the first Calasparra Rice Conference concluded, organized by the Lorca association of hoteliers Hostelor and by the Calasparra Denomination of Origin, which has been developed for a month in the city.
15 restaurants participated in the contest but the chef of Casa Roberto, Alejandra Rodríguez, prevailed over the rest with a sticky rice made with boletus and foie. The goal was to “enhance Lorca’s gastronomy” with a top quality product such as Calasparra rice, said the president of Hostelor, Jesús Abellaneda.
Among the jury were the Minister of Development, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, the director of the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia, Juan Francisco Martínez, and the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, as well as gastronomic critics, members of the employer Ceclor and the Chamber of Commerce.
The president of the Calasparra Rice Regulatory Council, José Martínez, said that “we have toured the Region for a year and a half with ‘1001 Sabores’ but we had not held an event outside of Calasparra as important as this one”, and thanked the 15 participants “having put this product in their kitchens”. He recalled that the Region has the only rice with the High Mountain Denomination of Origin in Spain.
