The Canary Islands dress up as a circus to welcome the art of the clown

The Canary Islands dress up as a circus from October 1 to 13. Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and Gran Canaria will be the setting for the International Clownbaret Festival (FIC), in which 30 international, national and local companies and participants will showcase the arts of clowning once again in 123 performances and activities.

Such notable names as Anatoli Akerman, Compagnie La Liberté, Leandre Clown, Teatro Necessario, Les Bleus de Travail, D’Es Tro, Cirk Bi’zark and les Golous will come together at this festival.

The event, one of the most anticipated of the fall, begins with an extensive street and theater program that includes a total of 123 performances and activities that enhance clown humor and the circus arts. Both on the street and in the theater, in circus and clown workshops and in meetings with artists from the Canary Islands Actors School and Alianza Francesa, as well as visits by social clowns to hospitals and senior centers and two performances at the Tenerife II Penitentiary Center, in the municipality of El Rosario.

The FIC, which was born eighteen years ago, returns in this edition with high-level care for the artists and shows, in the search to grow in a sustainable way for the Canary Islands and reach every corner of the islands with a quality work, aware of the care of the earth.

A poster that reaches everywhere

Adeje is one of the most important centers for the deployment of the festival’s programming. Between October 4 and 6, the Plaza del CC Salytien will be the stage where outdoor performances will take place, with a universal and high-quality language for all audiences. With the presence of Cirk Bi’Z’art, Les Goulus, Gilles Remy, Cia. Express, Teatro Necessario and Circo Los.

On Saturday, October 5, at 8:00 p.m., at the Santacrucero Teatro Guimerá, the FIC receives Cía. Leandre Clown, with free entry until capacity is reached. Invitations can be obtained on Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th at the Guimerá Theater box office.

The FIC will arrive in La Palma on Friday, October 4, at 8:00 p.m., when the Leandre Clown Company’s performance will take place at the Teatro Circo de Marte. Santa Cruz de La Palma completes its theatrical function with two performances in the Plaza de San Francisco by Circobaya and La Belle École.

On Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5, at Espacio la Granja, it will be the turn of six different performances: Cirk Bi’Z’art and Teatro Necessario will participate in the Theater, with tickets available on the Espacio la Granja website at a single price of 3 euros. In addition, the venue’s parking will be enabled and with free access until capacity is reached to enjoy the performances of Circo Los, Circobaya, Passabarret and Anatoli Akerman.

On the weekend from Friday the 11th to Sunday the 13th of October, the capital of clown and circus will be Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with 40 street performances with free access in the Plaza del Príncipe, Plaza Isla de la Madera, and different performances traveling by the companies Satélite Teatro and Les Goulus. In addition, residents and visitors will be able to enjoy the photographic exhibition Clowntraitby Asier Bastida, in the hallways of the Guimerá Theater.

The FIC 2024 also includes in this programming Allez Allez, les Golous, Anatoli Akerman, Quand les Moules Auront des Dent, Les Bleus de Travail, Jessica Arpin, Cia. D’estro, Yiyolo Stratto and Agustina Castro. The presentation of the shows will be, once again, by José Luis Redondo.

For its part, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, on October 11 and 12, six outdoor performances are scheduled with Satélite Teatro, Les Goulus, Quand Les Moules Auront des Dents and Les Bleus de Travail. Also on Friday, October 4, at 8:30 p.m. at the Leal Theater in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the performance of the great clown Anatoli Akerman is scheduled, with tickets available at tickety.es.

In this new edition, the programming of Clowns on the Road which will arrive this year in four municipalities of Tenerife: Guía de Isora with Anatoli Akerman; Tegueste with Thelmo Parole; Tacoronte with Compagnie de la Liberté and Santiago del Teide with Dudu Arnalot and Agustina Castro. There will also be performances in Vallehermoso, in La Gomera, with the companies Thelmo Parole and Passabarret and at the Guiniguada Theater in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which premieres on Sunday, October 13, at 6:00 p.m., the performance of La Compagnie de la Liberté .
