When Striking Distance Studios announced The Callisto Protocolfans were thrilled with the prospect of a survival horror game set in the same universe as the hugely successful battle royale shooter PUBG.
It seems, though, that things haven’t worked out well for these narrative connections, and the developer has now revealed that the two games no longer share the same universe.
The CEO of Striking Distance Studios Glen Schofield took to Twitter to reveal this information, explaining that while the game was originally part of the PUBG universe (set 300 years in the future), it has now grown into a world of its own. Schofield said that while there will be some little surprises here and there, fans shouldn’t expect much in the way of narrative connections and overall lore.
This revelation is not all that surprising, given that Schofield had previously stated in an interview that the links between the two games would not be very deep.
FYI @CallistoTheGame is its own story and world. It no longer takes place in the PUBG Universe. It was originally part of the PUBG timeline, but grew into its own world. PUBG is awesome, & we will still have little surprises for fans, but TCP is its own world, story and universe.
