Alessia Maurelli, Agnese Duranti, Daniela Mogurean, Martina Centofanti and Martina Santandrea third behind Bulgaria and Russia
Butterflies flying over the podium. The last blue medal of this fabulous Japanese Olympics comes from rhythmics, the fortieth of a record expedition: the Italy of dt Manuela Maccarani is bronze behind Bulgaria and Russia. We are back on the podium after 9 years, leaving behind the disappointment of the fourth place Rio.
Captain Alessia Maurelli, Agnese Duranti, Daniela Mogurean, Martina Centofanti and Martina Santandrea, all registered with the Air Force, obtained an overall score of 87,700 (44,850 with balls, 42,850 with hoops and clubs) with two elegant, convincing and without smudges on the music of Butterfly-Ninja and of the Tree of Life: in particular the second rotation was interpreted with great concentration and quality. It is the third Olympic medal ever for Italian rhythmics after the silver in Athens 2004 and the bronze in London 2012. Gold goes to Bulgaria with 92,100 which interrupts the Russian domination after 21 years: the outgoing champions are silver with 90,700. Belarus, which preceded us after the first rotation, collapsed with the ribbons and clubs finishing fifth.
