European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia hit mainly the economies of Western countries. German parliament member Matthias Moosdorff said this in an interview with Izvestia.
“Sanctions only affect the West. In Russia itself, they reinforce the mentality of a “fortress under siege.” The actual costs of sanctions for the EU have probably already exceeded €500 million,” the deputy noted.
The politician added that one cannot win in a direct confrontation with a nuclear power. He stressed that it was “simply ridiculous and was doomed from the start.”
At the same time, Germany pays for half of all EU aid to Ukraine, German Finance Minister Christian Linder said on January 6. He also expressed the idea that other wealthy countries of the association should make more efforts to support the Kyiv regime.
In mid-December 2023, the European Union approved the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions, aimed at the Russian diamond industry, the gas sector, and also providing for personal restrictions.
