Toti: “The number of administrations of the first dose is growing”
“Liguria is confirmed in the yellow zone”. This was announced by the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti.
“Despite the great circulation of the virus in recent days – adds Toti – thanks to the gigantic vaccination campaign and the enormous effort of all health professionals, the Ligurian system is proving to withstand the impact of Covid: we are in a complex situation anyway given the large circulation of the virus. The hope is that with the government provisions in force since Monday and with the introduction of the vaccination obligation for over 50s, the trend will be reversed ”. “The Christmas Decree – continues Toti – provides for a series of restrictions for the unvaccinated: these are necessary measures, given the high incidence and the fact that unvaccinated people, if infected, are more at risk of hospitalization with even very serious consequences. The numbers of intensive care units are unequivocal: of the 40 beds occupied today, 28 are for unvaccinated people, while in most cases of vaccinated people they are subjects with comorbidities. For those who have been vaccinated with a sense of responsibility towards themselves and others, essentially nothing will change: the goal is to prevent the country from new closures that the system could not withstand, as well as obviously reducing hospitalizations and deaths “. “In the first days of the year, also as a consequence of the new government provisions, one was registered in Liguria notable growth of the first doses administered – Toti adds -: from 1 to 6 January there were more than 6 thousand in total, with peaks of over 2 thousand on 4 January. These numbers are much more encouraging than those recorded in the last days of December, when the average was around the first 500 doses per day. The data relating to the booster doses administered from 1 to 6 January are also good: they are almost 40 thousand (39,930). Today we are close to 70% coverage of the over 80s with the booster dose. In the last 24 hours, 7,760 doses of vaccine have been administered, an important number taking into account yesterday’s holiday ”. As for the age group between 5 and 11, there are 18,211 bookings and over 7800 doses of vaccine administered. On this front, a vaccination line for all children will be active from Monday 10 January at the Gaslini hospital in Genoa, which will complement the vaccination process for medium and high-risk and “ultra-fragile” allergic children, which is already operational. “I want to thank the Gaslini Institute – adds Toti – which since the beginning of the pandemic has been playing a fundamental role as a regional hub in relation to the pediatric segment and which makes its professionalism available even in this complex phase, in view of the reopening of schools , to also make children safe with vaccination. The effort that our healthcare system is facing is titanic and that is why I want to thank all the professionals, who are also involved in the front line during the Christmas holidays ”.
