One arrives from the Viminale sound rejection of the proposal to give free tampons to the unvaccinated. “Assuming and not conceding that there is 1 billion available, I would use these resources to help families who have died as a result of the pandemic. It’s okay to come up with moderate prices for tampons, but vaccines are free. Who today does not have the green pass is a no vax ». This is what the Undersecretary of the Interior Carlo Sibilia said, commenting to Skytg24 on the proposal made by Beppe Grillo to guarantee free tampons to workers.
A judgment also supported by expert opinion. “Do-it-yourself” swab tests for the diagnosis of positivity to the SarsCoV2 virus have a reduced reliability and I do not think it is appropriate to think of using them for the purposes of green pass certification “. This was underlined by Massimo Ciccozzi, director of the Medical Statistics and Molecular Epidemiology Unit of the Bio-Medico Campus in Rome, regarding the proposal in this sense put forward by the president of the Conference of Regions Massimiliano Fedriga. «The do-it-yourself swab tests – explains Ciccozzi – have only 50-51% reliability, so it’s like throwing a coin. Obviously they are useful in cases of emergency in which there are no alternatives, but using them for the purposes of the green pass for returning to work is unacceptable ». As for the request of some politicians to extend the validity of the rapid antigenic swab to 72 hours, «I think even 48 hours of validity are too many. Therefore, a validity of 72 hours I believe has no validity from an epidemiological point of view and represents, on the contrary, a risk ». The swab, in fact, explains the expert, «provides a data relating to what moment about the positivity or negativity to the virus of an individual, but it is obvious that within the next 48 and even more 72 hours we can become infected. At 72 hours, of course, the chances of getting infected are even greater. I understand that this is an economic and cost problem for unvaccinated workers who have to undergo such tests, but from an epidemiological point of view, the extension of the validity of the test is not appropriate ».
Meanwhile, the new AIFA report on pharmacovigilance confirms the safety of vaccines. In the period between 27 December 2020 and 26 September 2021, 101,110 reports of suspected adverse reactions to anti-Covid vaccines were reported out of a total of 84,010,605 doses administered (reporting rate of 120 per 100,000 doses), of which the 85.4% referred to non-serious events, such as injection site pain, fever, asthenia / fatigue, muscle aches. Serious reports correspond to 14.4% of the total, with a rate of 17 serious events per 100,000 doses administered. Overall, in the period 27 December 2020 – 26 September 2021, 16 cases of mortality (3.7%) out of the 435 evaluated were related to Covid vaccines (approximately 0.2 cases per million doses administered), of which 14 already described in the Previous reports. This is highlighted by the ninth Pharmacovigilance Report on Covid-19 vaccines published by the Italian Medicines Agency. The remaining 2 reports refer to 2 patients aged 76 and 80 with a condition of fragility due to multiple pathologies, who died from Covid-19 after completing the vaccination cycle.
The incidence of infections in Piedmontese schools. The positive data in schools, kindergartens and nursery schools in Piedmont, illustrated today in a press conference by the governor Alberto Cirio with the councilors Elena Chiorino (Education), Luigi Icardi (Health) and Marco Gabusi (Transport), relate to week 4 October 10, 2021, compared with October 4-10, 2020. The incidence per 100 thousand inhabitants fell respectively from 55.9 to 36.9 at the nursery (0-2 years), from 35.3 to 34, 5 in kindergarten (3-5 years), from 72.7 to 36.1 in elementary school (6-10 years), from 99 to 44.6 in middle school (11-13 years), and from 130.4 to 34, 6 in high school (14-18 years). Evident is the strong retreat of the virus in the last two age groups, which include students over 12, therefore vaccinable. The average participation in the vaccination campaign among Piedmontese students has so far been an average of 70%.
