Data for Thursday 9 December. More than 250 thousand current total positives, as at the end of May. The positivity rate rises to 4% with 312,828 swabs. Admissions: +234. Intensive care: +20
I am 12,527
the new cases of coronavirus in Italy (yesterday there were 17,959, here the bulletin). It goes up like this at least 5,164,780
the number of people who have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus (including recovered and died) since the outbreak began. THE deaths today I’m 79
(yesterday there were 86), for a total of 134,551 victims from February 2020.
People recovered or discharged they are altogether 4,775,676 And 7.098 those that came out of the Covid nightmare today (9,540 yesterday). The positive current – the subjects who have the virus – turn out to be in all 254.553, equal to +5.339 compared to yesterday (+8,320 the day before). To see over 250,000 total current positives we must go back to the end of May (see between 27/5 and 28/5), with the difference that then this number was decreasing, while now it tends to increase.
The swabs and the scenario
THE total swabs (molecular and antigenic) were 312.828, or 251,870 less than yesterday when it was 564,698. While the positivity rate rises to 4% (the approximation of 4.00%); yesterday it was 3.2%. Here is the map of the contagion in Italy.
Less infections in 24 hours than yesterday. It happens due to a smaller number of swabs: these are the tests processed on December 8, which is a public holiday. As a result, the curve flexes and the positivity rate jumps to 4%, like it does on Mondays. The comparison with last Thursday (December 2) is difficult (and incorrect), when the data were not influenced by the midweek holiday and were recorded +16,806 cases with a rate of 2.6% thanks to 679 thousand swabs.
The independent monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation on a weekly basis (1-7 December) shows the parameters of the growing epidemic: + 22.4% new cases compared to the week before (it was + 25.1% in the previous report), + 12% deaths (was + 14%), + 16.3% hospitalizations (was + 13.7%) and + 13.6% intensive care (was + 22%). With the current trend of growth of new cases, even if the impact on hospitals “amortized” by vaccines, in the next 4 weeks various regions will change color, explains Nino Cartabellotta, president of Gimbe.
The health system
The increase in hospitalizations continues in every area. The beds occupied in ordinary Covid wards I’m +234 (yesterday +21), for a total of 6,333 hospitalized. The beds occupied in intensive care (TI) are +20 (yesterday +15) – this is the balance between the people who left and those who entered ICU -, bringing the total of the most seriously ill patients to 811, with 69 admissions to resuscitation (yesterday 62).
