Anne-Marie Trevelyan, junior minister for entrepreneurship, energy and the environment of Great Britain, announced the launch of a campaign to switch the population to heat pumps in homes. For the accelerated modernization of heating systems, people are compensated for the costs of replacing existing gas boilers with environmentally friendly heating installations, writes The guardian…
The representative of the government noted that for the equipment of houses with heat pumps, residents of England and Wales will receive subsidies in the amount of 5,000 pounds sterling (about 6.9 thousand dollars). The compensation will affect the owners of 90,000 existing buildings.
With such a statement on the strategy for heating existing housing in the country and changing standards for new construction, Trevelyan made in advance of the Cop26 summit in Glasgow, adding that the installation of gas boilers in the future will be completely canceled out. “In the short term, replacing boilers with heat pumps is voluntary. We urge the market to push these changes forward. Some energy companies are already doing this – not only providing homes with energy, but also encouraging their customers to switch to heat pumps, looking for ways to help them, ”the official stressed.
Earlier, the UK announced a goal of carbon neutrality until 2050. The main sources of greenhouse emissions in the country are homes and businesses powered by fossil fuels. The government of Boris Johnson decided to introduce a ban on the installation of boilers in favor of heat pumps in new buildings in stages from 2025. One of the largest developers in the country criticized the initiative because of the low productivity of the equipment. Community activists called the measures unprofitable due to high prices for pumps and unexpected costs for residents.
