Al-Sadr said in his statement, which he posted on his Twitter account: “The competent authorities should immediately raise a protest note to the United Nations and the Iranian ambassador, while taking guarantees that it will not be repeated.”
Al-Sadr, the leader of the largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament, stressed that “Iraqi lands should not be used from north to south and from east to west as an arena for political, security and military conflicts.”
And he continued: “Just as we condemn all actions targeting neighboring countries from inside Iraq, we condemn any external interference and any bombing of Iraq’s fully sovereign lands.”
Al-Sadr had issued a statement shortly after the missile attack, stressing that “Erbil is under fire, loss and betrayal, and under pain of starvation… as if the Kurds are not Iraqis.”
Several missiles fell, on the night of Saturday, Sunday, on the city of Erbil, without causing any casualties. A group of missiles landed near a headquarters under construction for the US Consulate and a television station.
Kurdish officials said the ballistic missiles were launched from outside Iraq.
Later, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard confirmed that it had fired missiles at what it said were secret Israeli bases in Iraqi Kurdistan.
