The Board of Directors of the joint company between Oman Rail, the developer and operator of the national railway network in the Sultanate of Oman, and Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the national railway network in the United Arab Emirates, held its first meeting, two days after the signing of the company’s founding agreement between the two parties, which was On the sidelines of the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, to the Sultanate of Oman. The company’s board of directors includes His Excellency Suhail bin Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of the Sultanate of Oman, and Sheikh Nasser bin Sulaiman Al Harthy, Deputy Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority for Operations, Acting and Chairman of the Board of Directors Asyad Group, Saeed Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail for Passenger Transport, Eng. Abdul Rahman bin Salem Al Hatmi, CEO of ASYAD Group, and Eng. Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail.
The members of the Board of Directors valued the unlimited support of the wise leaderships in the two countries and their strategic vision in enhancing ways of cooperation and joint work between the two countries in various fields, and the directive to establish the joint company to implement and operate a railway network linking Sohar Port with the UAE national railway network, which comes as an extension of the solid strategic and historical relations that It brings together the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates at all levels, to contribute to opening new horizons in the infrastructure, transport and logistics sectors, by linking the economic, industrial, commercial and residential areas in the two countries with railways, which enhances commercial movement and social cohesion.
The company’s board of directors also dealt with plans for the implementation of the joint project between the Sultanate of Oman and the UAE, including the work of technical studies and engineering design, environmental studies of the pathways, business model and commercial affairs of the joint company.
The Council stressed the importance of adopting best practices in relation to the company’s institutional framework and governance and management systems, to enable the company to perform its tasks and achieve the desired goals of its establishment, and to adopt the highest standards of global safety, safety and sustainability through the development of the railway network between the Sultanate of Oman and the UAE, which extends over a distance 303 km, to provide safe and fast services for passenger transport and freight forwarding, thus contributing to the promotion and development of the national economy of the two countries, as well as raising the efficiency of the supply chain system and facilitating cross-border trade between the two countries by linking commercial outlets to the railway network.
During the meeting, Eng. Ahmed Al Hashemi was appointed as CEO of the company, and Eng. Mohammed bin Zahran Al Mahrouqi as Deputy CEO.
His Excellency Suhail bin Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei stressed that the establishment of the joint company between the Sultanate of Oman and the UAE comes in line with the directions of the two brotherly countries to achieve sustainable development by upgrading the transport and infrastructure sectors towards new horizons, to support economic and commercial growth, as the company will work through The development of the joint railway network aims to strengthen the land transport system between the two countries according to the highest standards and levels, to provide a safe, reliable and sustainable means of transportation, which will enhance the linkage between the industrial and commercial areas, as well as the consolidation of the social cohesion that has always brought the two peoples together.
For his part, His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali stressed: “This strategic partnership to implement the railway network between the Sultanate of Oman and the sisterly United Arab Emirates will enhance the common fraternal bond that has been established by the leaderships of the two brotherly countries, and translates common goals in social and economic integration between the two countries, and contributes to In logistical support for various commercial and economic activities and the growth of trade and economic exchange, it opens up broader horizons and high-quality transportation options that contribute to achieving an effective link between Sohar Port and the Free Zone on the Omani side, and the industrial and economic areas of the sisterly United Arab Emirates.”
It is worth noting that the establishment of the joint company between Oman Rail and Etihad Rail, came with the aim of designing, developing and operating a railway network linking Sohar Port to the UAE national railway network, with a total project investment of three (3) billion US dollars.
