- Local trains will not run in Mumbai till December
- BMC commissioner said – decision after 3-4 weeks
- Night curfew may be increased if corona case increases
Common people waiting to travel in a local train for almost eight months will have to wait longer. BMC Commissioner IS Chahal has said, ‘We had planned to open local trains, swimming pools and schools, but at the moment all these will remain closed. After three to four weeks, we will review what the situation of Corona in Mumbai is. Only then can a decision be taken for further.
Let us know that the state government had written a letter to the Railways in the past to open the local service in Mumbai for the common people. Since then, people hoped that after Diwali in Mumbai, they would be allowed to travel in local. But now after BMC Commissioner Chahal’s statement, this hope for him is over. Following the request of the state government, only employees involved in urgent services, bank employees, lawyers, dabbawalas, teachers and women have been allowed to travel in the local train.
Commissioner Chahal clarified, ‘There will be no new ban in Mumbai in the coming days. The way Mumbai is unlocked, it will remain the same. Chahal said, ‘Corona situation in Mumbai has been controlled to a great extent. In view of this, we had planned to open swimming pools, schools and trains here, but in view of the increasing cases of Corona in the country, we have now deferred the decision on all these.
‘No night curfew’
Commissioner Chahal indirectly put an end to fears that a lockdown or night curfew could be imposed in Mumbai again if Corona’s case escalated. On keeping the schools closed till 31 December, Chahal said, ‘We decided that not a single child will be put at risk. The schools are already closed and will remain closed for now. This is a decision made keeping in mind the safety of children, teachers and other staff.
