FC Barcelona has just signed Ferrán Torres to recover part of the offensive potential that the team needs and face the second half of the season in better conditions.
However, winter transfers do not always give good results. Next, let’s see which have been the best incorporations that Barcelona has made in the winter market throughout its history.
The De Boer brothers landed at the Camp Nou in January 1999 but only Frank managed to settle into the team. The center-back was considered one of the best of the time in his position and he stayed at Barça until 2003. In those four and a half seasons he conquered a league just as soon as he arrived.
Perhaps we are talking about the best winter signing in the history of the Barça club. His arrival in the summer of 2004 on loan was a revolution and a boost of morale for a team that was lost in the classification table, 15 points behind Real Madrid, and ended the season in second position, beating the whites and only behind Valencia that was proclaimed champion. Once the loan was over, the Dutchman did not continue at the club.
In the 2008 winter market, Barcelona was forced to sign a goalkeeper after Albert Junquera’s injury and he landed at the Camp Nou José Manuel Pinto. What at first seemed to be a simple replacement for the second goalkeeper turned out to be a great opportunity for Pinto, who spent six seasons at the club, even as a substitute for Valdés, and in that time he won 16 titles.
FC Barcelona announced the return of Dani Alves on November 12, but he cannot be registered until January 2022, the date on which he will debut in an official match. The Brazilian full-back arrives five years after leaving the club and does so at zero cost, just for that he already presents himself as a good signing. And seeing the problems that the Barça team is having on the right side, Alves can contribute his seniority, his enthusiasm and his desire to show that he can go to the Qatar World Cup. On paper it is not a bad signing, but if it does not give the expected performance at least it has not been paid for it.
Ferrán Torres is the second winter reinforcement of FC Barcelona for this season. The Catalans have paid 55 million euros for the player and if they give him time it can be a great investment. Seeing how Barcelona is doing, the casualties they have and the problems in front of goal, Ferran could become the best winter signing in the club’s history.
