Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko, a former three-weight world champion and Beijing 2008 Olympic medalist, joined the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky Territorial Defense Battalion to fight in the war against Russia.
This was announced on his social networks by the 34-year-old boxer, who was in Greece when the Russian army decided to invade his country last Thursday. According to local media, Lomachenko did everything possible to reach Ukrainian territory despite air restrictions.
From gloves to weapons
The athlete played his last duel in November of last year against Richard Commey. At this time, he did not have any confirmed fights. So, from the outset, there would be no problem in taking up arms in defense of Ukraine.
His photograph, dressed in the uniform of the Ukrainian army, is going around the world thanks to its dissemination on social networks.
