Given the increase in ‘phishing’ and all kinds of cyber attacks, it is essential to defend your devices and take the greatest precautions
It is increasingly important to have a good antivirus to protect your computer. Phishing attempts and all kinds of cyberattacks are the order of the day, so take all possible precautions. To defend against these threats, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) recommends several free and reliable antiviruses.
Windows Defender
By statistics, most of these cyberattacks are directed at the Windows operating system, the most used by users. For this reason, in 2006 it launched Windows Defender, a very modest free antivirus for Windows XP and Windows Vista that has been improving its features and perfecting itself over time.
Windows Defender is the security program that is installed by default in the Windows 10 operating system. It does not need to be installed, but is already active with the operating system. It is automatically disabled when you install another antivirus and it is automatically enabled again when you uninstall it or when it becomes outdated.
In this way Microsoft wants to ensure that the computer is minimally protected at all times. It is of good quality, but it does not have any antiphishing protection, it gives many false positives and it slows down the PC somewhat.
Kaspersky, Avast and AVG Free Antivirus
If you are looking for another antivirus, three of the best ones are free. Kaspersky Security Cloud Free, the best of those analyzed, stands out from the rest because it provides excellent protection against malware of 99.86% and 100% of ransomware, it offers good antiphishing protection (81%) and it has a security service. VPN up to 300MB/day. Also, unlike what happens with other free antiviruses, with Kaspersky Security Cloud Free the user will not suffer annoying promotions to upgrade to the paid version, it is very easy to use and does not slow down the computer at all.
For its part, Avast Free Antivirus detects 99.96% of viruses and 100% of ransomware and stops 94% of phishing. However, it is very heavy: it takes up 2,236 MB on the disk (much more than its paid version). Ease of use can be improved, and this protection program continually has annoying promotions to upgrade to its paid version. Another of the best options is AVG Antivirus Free.
