the belgian Dries Van Gestel (Total Energies) has been the winner of the 59th edition of the Tour of Drenthea Dutch one-day event between Assen and Hoogeveen, with a distance of 198.1 km.
Van Gestel (Turnhout, 27 years old)the fastest in the final breakaway that took place 60 km from the finish line, won ahead of Hungarian Barnabás Peak (Intermarché) and from French Hugo Hofstetter (Arkea Samsic).
A group of 15 riders broke away from the pack 58km from Hoogeveen. The successive attacks reduced the advance guard to 6 runners, that they were going to play the victory. Among all of them, Van Gestel emerged to start less than 3 from the last line and go off alone to his first win of the season.
Dries Van Gestel was key in the last ascent of Vam Berg. His initiative caused the good cut, taking Barnabas Peak, Joren Bloem, Timo Roosen, Mick van Dijk and Hugo Hofstetter to the wheel. A project that was consolidated despite the work in the Jumbo Visma platoonwho failed to capture the leading men.
Van Gestel happens in the palmares to his countryman Rune Herregodtswinner in 2021.
