The Basque Public University (UPV/EHU) announced this Friday that it has already departed from teaching to the teacher against which some students have filed “several formal complaints” for harassment and touching. It does not, however, that there is any before Ertzaintza and the university circumscribes them to the internal field. He does not clarify since when he has proof of the existence of these complaints. The teacher will not teach at the Faculty of Letters of the Campus of Álava, of which he was a teacher, at least until the facts are clarified. “The reported professor is no longer teaching and will not go to the Faculty until the case is resolved,” the University has announced in a brief statement this Friday.
“The rectory team points out that it is acting with rigorous discretion, as required by the protocol, and emphasizes that the priority is to guarantee the safety of the victims. The University asks the entire community and all social agents who act with the responsibility required by the situation and avoid any type of speculation that may be harmful to the victims, ”the university has abounded in the statement.
“It has several complaints. In some cases it was a sexual abuse and, in others, of attitudes that it maintains in class, ”he said in recent dates and before the ETB cameras a young woman who had been her student. “Comments on prostitution, sexualized and macho are normalized,” complained another about his classes. Another woman assured that “five years ago”, in the 2019-20 academic year, a “complaint for sexual assault” against him had already been filed. “The university did have news of this, but the measures that were taken, seen that the students who had organized to denounce this aggression had calmed down, were simply to throw the anger,” he complains. Some of these young women, who were their students until he has been separated from teaching, regrets that they had no record of what happened five years earlier.
“We have maintained discretion”
On Wednesday, the University announced that it had activated the “protocol against gender violence” after some students had filed “several formal complaints” for harassment and touching by a teacher. He did not clarify what kind of complaints they were and since then he has referred to them interchangeably as “formal complaints” and as “formal complaints.” Although he announced on Wednesday that he would take “the necessary measures”, the university, to questions from this newspaper, did not clarify whether the professor had been separated from teaching. That decision has communicated two days later. Nor have they given information since then about the dates on which the first complaints against this teacher emerged. It was then the need to “protect the victims” so as not to offer more data on that extreme.
Although the teacher of teaching has now been temporarily separated, “nothing has changed” in recent days, they underline. “We have maintained discretion,” they clarify. From the university it has been explained that on an indeterminate date messages appeared that denounced the facts on social networks and that they gave rise to the protocol to be launched “immediately.” This protocol has led to the teacher’s relay this Friday.
