In his narrative debut, with his celebrated novel ‘The clandestine newspapers of Snow White’ (Edhasa, 2001), Jesús del Campo (Gijón, 1958) was revealed as one of the most original and suggestive writers of the current Spanish literature. In it, the teacher and translator also … It presents a unique approach to the traditional story of Snow White, where we discovered that this and the prince were not so happy or ate partridges. In this work, Jesús del Campo demonstrated his narrative ability and his talent to assemble incisive fables. Now he gives us a succulent proposal, formed by forty six short stories, set in the Baroque, without a doubt, a time with not little convulsive and numerous contrasts. The field itself has explained the genesis of the book: «I saw on YouTube a representation of The Burgués Gentilhombre, in French period, with the phonetics of the Baroque, as spoken in Molière’s time. He was very close to reality. The dark fears of the century were noticed. I wanted to enter that mystery of the past and portray it ».

Precisely, the great Galo playwright appears in the XXXIV story, where its protagonist, Béatrice Hietond, an actress who travels with a street theater the territories of France, comments: «Maestro Molière knows of fears, fights with mills and laughs to have them distance. We travel with their words in the head ». Because, in effect, fear, together with violence and intrigues, is in the background of “this century so dark and devout barbaries”, where “the most cruel fighting of life win”, we read in the story III. And like the author of ‘El Avaro’, creator of so many hilarious comedies, Jesús del Campo successfully uses the great resource of humor and irony in several stories, as in the II, that in which a hornet prostitute drags Tello Yáñez to his house: «I know where you come from [Yáñez ha estado en una algarabia, gritando contra el mal gobierno]. Here in my house everything is good governance ». There are several countries and cities in which episodes are developed, populated by characters from all over lying and condition: soldiers, peasants, nobles … and even a poisoner who works for the Embassy of the Republic of Venice in Paris. A kaleidoscope of feelings, being evident that the human being moves by the same drives, somehow chaired by eros and tánatos, at any time, in a perpetual “dance of mortals in the cheat paths of life.”
