Spain suffers from 12.30 am a massive energy blackout. Chaos floods our country and, for the moment, Electric Red He has not been able to clarify the causes of what happened. Beyond the electricity supply, the telecommunications network has also been very affected by the lack of energy. And another strategic sector such as banking is also registering some problems.
“Given the situation caused by the blackout that affects a good part of the national territory, the Bank of Spain is in permanent contact with all agents of the Spanish financial system, monitoring any incidence that may occur,” they report sources from the Bank of Spain. Sector sources confirm that each Bank has internally activated its protocols to continue working and that the central services also have generators to support all the systems. Anyway, those sources of the sector emphasize that they are still evaluating the impact.
At 15.30, as noted by the Bank of Spain«All entities have constituted their crisis committees and both central services and electronic banking work properly thanks to support systems. On the other hand, offices and ATMs do record incidents by not having backup electricity generation systems ».
The payment system, meanwhile, does not record relevant problems and is working normally, within what fits. «The Target wholesale system is working normally. The Iberpay retail system works with slight delays. For its part Redsys and Cecabankwhich manage most of the TPV of the national territory, work correctly, but with less activity than it is common, surely because some shops have run out of battery on their devices, ”add the sources of the Bank of Spain.
In public, the largest bank in Spain, CaixaBankindicates that «it has activated the protocols to ensure the operational continuity of the entity because of the fall of the electricity supply suffered in Spain. The bank keeps its digital channels, both web and ‘app’. Likewise, the means of payment (cards) and the TPV work as long as the shops have an operational terminal ».
Following the line of the Bank of Spain, CaixaBank confirms problems in offices and ATMs in certain geographical areas by the electricity supply, “so in those centers where the service cannot be ensured as a consequence of the blackout, its orderly closure has been activated.”
BBVA has also reported that it has activated a protocol to guarantee operational continuity. «The digital and payment channels continue operations normally, while the ATMs have been affected by the blackout and hope to re -operate when the electrical service is restored. BBVA recommends reducing unnecessary displacements and maximum caution in them, ”indicates sources from the entity.
