The new president of Renfe, Raúl Blanco, pointed out that the ‘low cost’ Avlo trains will serve all the stations of the high-speed network, and that their implementation will be developed progressively. Speaking to ‘El País’, Blanco outlined the company’s plans for the Avlo to start operating between Alicante and Madrid from the 27th. Later, before the summer, it will do so in Seville and Malaga. The northern lines will follow. Avlo already provides service on the Madrid-Barcelona and Madrid-Valencia lines, to face competition from the private operators Iryo and Ouigo. Both announced that they will also operate from Alicante before the summer.
In accordance with this planning, the president of Renfe has not mentioned the Murcia-Madrid line, so it is unknown at this time when the Avlo will arrive at the Carmen station. He indicated that the objective is to introduce this offer in all corridors, once Renfe receives the new trains whose manufacture it contracted a few years ago.
Likewise, Raúl Blanco explained the company’s strategy so that AVE trains make direct routes, leaving most of the intermediate stops for Avlo. Murcian society has been urgently demanding a direct AVE with Madrid and a better service, modifying the current system of stops in Alicante that lengthen travel time. The Ministry has not yet responded to this demand.
