In addition, the Chinese giant presented sodium ion accumulators, more affordable and fire -resistant than lithium
The Chinese batteries giant Catl (Contemporary Amperex Technology) has presented on Monday the latest versions of its cells with greater durability and load resistance. The main innovation is that, with the same chemical composition, they are able to load a battery of more than 500 kilometers of autonomy in five minutes.
Through an event transmitted on his social networks from Shanghai in the framework of ‘Tech Day’, the CEO and president of Catl, Robin Zeng, showed an improved version of his Shenxing battery, a cell that offers an autonomy of 520 kilometers with only five minutes of load.
Thus, the company presented this new technology to exceed its main competitor, also the BYD battery and electric cars manufacturer. These introduced a technology capable of recharging an electric car of 400 kilometers of autonomy at the same time, according to Europa Press.
Catl is one of the main battery suppliers for electric car manufacturers and has a considerable presence of western manufacturers in its porpholio, such as Tesla, Stellantis or Ford.
So much so that, according to the data collected by Bloomberg, Catl has a market share of around 38.2% among electric car manufacturers. Comparatively, Byd, its closest competitor, has 16.9% penetration.
In this event, the company presented a chemical innovation, sodium ion accumulators, which will involve a considerable reduction in the cost of the most expensive component of the electric car. This occurred days before the main Chinese Motor Show.
The new battery, called Naxtra, is ready for commercialization and has been tested in various extreme circumstances, including very cold climates and fires. Even after being placed in an ice chamber at a temperature of -40º, technology did not present power degradation.
According to company data, Naxtra batteries should be able to provide a plug -in hybrid vehicle for an autonomy of about 200 kilometers, which can reach 500 kilometers in the case of an electric vehicle.
Compared to lithium batteries, those based on sodium offer greater safety and stability, since it is less reactive and has a lower fire risk.
Catl also presented a range of double power batteries with various chemical compositions and energy densities that, according to the company, offer an autonomy of up to 1,000 kilometers for the next generation of electric vehicles.
