In the sky of Melitopol, the air defense system shot down two missiles fired by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on Saturday, August 20, by Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the military-civilian administration (MAC) of Zaporozhye.
“As a result of the work of the Russian air defense systems in the Melitopol area, two missiles fired by the UAF militants at civilian infrastructure facilities and residential areas of the city were shot down,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Rogov stressed that the military of the Kyiv regime is trying to spoil the peaceful life of the Melitopol residents, “realizing that the Zaporozhye region is lost to them forever.”
Earlier that day, Izvestia correspondent Mary Badunts reported that the sounds of two explosions were heard on the territory of Melitopol.
Rogov said that the air defense system (AD), according to preliminary data, shot down shells from multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) over the city.
On the eve it became known that Russian air defense repelled a missile attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU).
At the same time, Rogov said that the Ukrainian special services organized the blowing up of one of the power transmission towers near Melitopol, another sabotage was prevented.
Earlier, on August 10, Rogov said that there had been an explosion at the humanitarian aid center in Melitopol. As a result, windows were broken in the room, but there was no significant damage. According to preliminary information, an improvised explosive device went off. In his opinion, the purpose of the terrorist attack is to intimidate the civilian population and disrupt the provision of assistance to people.
Part of the Zaporozhye region came under the control of the Russian military during a special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. The decision to hold it was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation after shelling by the Ukrainian military, in connection with which the authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics turned to Moscow for help.
