The President of Austria said that the country’s government will submit his resignation
After the parliamentary elections held on Sunday, September 29, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen announced that the current federal government would submit his resignation in the coming days. At the same time, it will continue to work until a new one is appointed, the politician indicated in a statement published on his Youtube channel.
“The current federal government will submit its resignation this coming week. I will instruct him to continue his work until the appointment of a new federal government,” the president emphasized.
Elections to the National Council of the Republic were held in Austria. On Sunday at 17:00 (18:00 Moscow time) the last polling station closed.
Earlier, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer admitted the defeat of his Austrian People’s Party (ANP) faction in the parliamentary elections. In turn, the ORF television channel, with reference to preliminary results, informed that the Austrian Freedom Party (APS), which opposes anti-Russian sanctions, is leading in the elections.
As Reuters wrote, the coming to power in Austria and Hungary of right-wing forces could cause a split in the EU on issues related to assistance to Ukraine. Previously, this publication claimed that representatives of right-wing forces are the favorites in the elections in Austria.
