The newspaper “Confidencial” continues to publish the leaked audios of the President of the Spanish Football Federation, Rubiales, and yesterday we were able to listen to a conversation he had with Sergio Ramos in 2018.
That season was the first in which VAR was introduced, and the Federation, being responsible for arbitration, had many complaints. In the audios we have been able to hear how Sergio Ramos, visibly upset, complained directly to Rubiales about the malfunction of the technology. The former Real Madrid captain specifically complained that the VAR favored Barça: “Rubi, what’s going on? One thing, the VAR issue is starting to worry us seriously, especially with Barça. It is a real shame and nerve what the referees are doing. Have you seen Suárez’s foul on the goalkeeper at 2-1? It’s a joke. A hug”.
The President, as expected, responded without getting into the rag: “Good afternoon, Sergio. You are the captain of the National Team, you have hundreds or thousands of games behind you and better than anyone you understand that sometimes there are different opinions about a same fact. As you well know, I don’t get into these issues.”.
In the audios with the Andalusian centre-back, a much more distant relationship is evident than the one with Piqué, because even Ramos in a message wanted to show his discomfort with the President for not having told him about the new coach (Luis Enrique) and his intentions. “You will tell me about the new coach who, honestly, I don’t even know how he thinks. I have no news of him”, he concluded.
