The audience of Madrid has acquitted businessmen Alberto Luceño and Luis Medina in the so -called Mascarillas Case, the first held for alleged scam contracts for sanitary material during the pandemic.

The Anti -Corruption Prosecutor accused Luceño and Medina of the crimes of aggravated fraud and documentary falsehood, asking for 15 and 9 years in prison for them, respectively.
In the accusation brief, the prosecutor considered that the intention of the defendants was “to enrich themselves exaggerated at the expense of the situation of extreme need and lack of health materials” through the three contracts with the municipal company as a buyer and the Malaysian company Leno SDN BHD as a saleswoman to acquire 1 million masks for 6.7 million dollars; 2.5 nitrile glove pairs for 5 million dollars and 250,000 rapid COVID tests for 4.2 million dollars.
