The initiative goes ahead without the support of PP and Cs, who warn of the lack of competence to modify the regulations
The Committee on Territorial Policy, Environment, Agriculture and Water of the Regional Assembly approved a PSOE motion to draw up a regional port law that takes into account “the weak situation” of the Mar Menor. The initiative went ahead without the support of PP and Cs who warned the Socialists of the lack of powers to modify the regulations.
The PSOE deputy Pedro López explained that this proposal is based on a request from the Association of Yacht Clubs and Sports Ports of the Region to modify the law. As they indicate, “more than 60% of the concessions of marinas in the Region are in a precarious situation.”
From the PSOE they stated that their approach is to carry out a regional port plan that also serves to fight against seasonality. “We propose a plan that takes into account the weak situation that the Mar Menor has in the sense of prioritizing sailing and non-polluting engines and that the ports are open,” he pointed out.
In his opinion, this issue should be addressed and carried out with the participation of neighborhood associations, merchants and all those involved. “A port plan must be drawn up with participation. The PP and Cs say that they recently approved a document in this regard that nobody knows about, “he added.
Contributions through the Júcar-Vinalopó pipeline
The commission has also approved a PP motion on contributions through the Júcar-Vinalopó pipeline. The initiative went ahead with the abstention of Podemos. In it, the national government is asked to carry out the necessary works so that the waters of the Júcar-Vinalopó Transfer reach the Altiplano region as soon as possible.
The PP deputy Jesús Cano denounced that “the Government of Pedro Sánchez continues without providing a solution to the very serious problem of the overexploitation of aquifers in the Altiplano region and in other areas of the Region of Murcia”, with demands, both urban and agricultural, “which cannot be met in a sustainable way with the renewable resources that these aquifers receive”.
At the agricultural level, Cano explained that the problem is one of “scarcity and limitation of existing resources.” This means that it “strangles and prevents the development of a sector strongly implanted in the Region, generator of employment and economic activity.” To this limitation of resources, “is added the progressive depletion of these resources as a result of their overexploitation and deterioration, which began decades ago”, to add that “the Altiplano region, as well as other areas of the Region, are disconnected from other water supply networks and without the possibility of obtaining new resources such as desalination”.
In this sense, the PP deputy demanded that the national government act “in the same way as has been done with the Alicante users of the Vinalopó-Alacantí Central Irrigation Board and the Marina Baja Consortium, which will provide relief for the overexploited aquifers of the Vinalopó, since the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) authorized weeks ago the largest transfer in the ten years of life of the Júcar-Vinalopó Transfer, of 18.8 cubic hectometres».
The commission also approved a motion from the PSOE for the repair and improvement of the RM-C1 road, which connects Alcantarilla with the Murcian district of Barqueros and through which some 1,400 vehicles pass daily, of which more than a hundred are Heavy vehicles.
