Netanyahu has been suffering from great and unprecedented pressure in the street since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
An opinion poll broadcast by Israeli Channel 14 revealed that the assassination of Nasrallah may restore the majority to Netanyahu’s coalition in the Knesset.
The poll conducted by the Direct Falls Institute for Opinion Polls shows that the right-wing bloc obtained 61 seats for the first time since the outbreak of the war, and the ruling Likud Party also obtained 31 seats, which may enhance Netanyahu’s ability to win again in the upcoming elections and widen the gap over his opponents. .
Before that, Netanyahu and opposition MP Gideon Saar announced that the latter would rejoin the government in a move that is likely to strengthen the prime minister’s position politically.
Did the assassination of Nasrallah save Netanyahu’s popularity?
In this regard, former Knesset member and head of the Emile Touma Institute for Studies, Issam Makhoul, said in his interview with Sky News Arabia that “Channel 14’s polls do not mean anything.”
Makhoul added: “This channel is owned by the settler right and not even Likud. Therefore, it is in favor of Netanyahu and creates a kind of misinformation.”
Regarding whether this poll indicates that Israeli society is moving towards war, Makhoul answered: “Israeli society is moving towards extremism. Israeli society is in a very big strategic dilemma, and it hopes for a moment that will raise its morale.”
He continued: “There are all old grudges coming to the surface now. This is something we expected, but it will not last long.”
The former Knesset member returned to confirm that “this popularity (Netanyahu’s popularity) will not last long,” highlighting, “When Israel begins to pay the price through a ground battle, the Israeli mood will change.”
