Through its 22-year journey, the Arab Media Forum has assumed a distinguished position as one of the most prominent global spaces for balanced professional dialogue on topics and issues concerned with the reality and future of media. It has become the largest media gathering in the region, and one of the most prominent global events affecting the media industry, addressing its issues and anticipating its future.
The first edition of the forum was launched in Dubai in 2001 as part of the most important projects of the Dubai Press Club, to showcase through its activities, initiatives and sessions the role of the media, its impact and its influence on various areas of development – economic, political, social, scientific, sports, technical and other fields – and its work has not ceased since its launch, as it held its 19th session in December. 2020, by default, as a result of the repercussions of the “Covid-19” pandemic, through various digital communication platforms that broadcast the event with all its sessions and activities directly and in real time, within a unique experience of its kind.
During its journey, the forum contributed to stimulating dialogue between media professionals and encouraging positive communication between the Arab media and its Western counterpart. During its successive sessions, it was characterized by keeping pace with the rapid development in the media, moving at a steady pace from regional to global, achieving an effective and distinguished impact in the media arena, with the participation of Arab experiences and competencies, foreign journalists and industry professionals. A political and economic decision and intellectuals, in addition to academics and researchers within a periodic, specialized, professional dialogue with those in charge of media institutions. Over the past years, the Forum has presented an important set of comprehensive reference reports on Arab media and the most important issues and challenges facing the sector in its various political, economic, environmental and cultural trends and developments, in cooperation with a group of the most prominent Arab and international academic and research institutions. This year, the Forum is launching the second edition of the Arab Media Forum for Youth, in conjunction with the activities of the Arab Media Forum, with the aim of preparing and qualifying a distinguished young media generation by taking advantage of digital technologies, social media platforms and issues related to sustainability, space exploration and other issues that are of interest to young people and enhance… Their knowledge levels, through inspiring sessions that tell their success stories in various fields, which confirms the interest that the wise leadership gives to the youth component, which is evident through the assignment of many important ministerial files to young ministers.
The forum will include honoring the winners of the Arab Media Award in its 23rd session.
The award was established in 1999 under the name of the Arab Journalism Award and was given to journalists, for the purpose of introducing their professional work and creativity. It was then transformed into the Arab Media Award to become more comprehensive, with the addition of two sectors: visual media and digital media. The Arab Media Forum 2024 will conclude its activities next Wednesday, May 29, with the distribution ceremony of the “Arab Social Media Pioneers Awards,” which were launched in 2015, to honor Arab innovators on social media and celebrate their positive ideas that make communication platforms a tool for increasing society’s awareness of the most important issues. That affect its reality and future, and encourage and disseminate useful thought to various groups and segments of society.
