For almost ten years and until 2021, the presence of Chinese brands in our country, and in the European market in general, was almost negligible. But since then, the landing has been on a large scale, and now there are more than twenty Chinese automobile companies that already market their models. In fact, they already account for 4% of sales. And, according to forecasts, in 2030 more than 25% of the automobile market share in Spain will be from Chinese manufacturers.
Part of the success? The price. The best-selling Chinese car has a rate 26% lower than the best-selling equivalent European car, according to the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU). “It is true that Chinese cars have a good quality/price ratio, but you should keep in mind that, today, not much is known about the reliability of the brands or the quality of after-sales service,” they say. But each time they are also gaining in attractive design, quality materials and engines adapted to each consumer, needs and tastes.
Thus, it is increasingly common to see models from BYD, MG, Omoda, Jaecoo or DFSK. It has also been announced that, in the coming months, new ones such as Xpeng and Leapmotor will arrive. They all have a wide range of bodies and engines, with a price range that ranges from 18,399 euros for a utility vehicle to 80,100 euros for a pick-up, passing through an average of 35,000 euros for an SUV.
It is worth highlighting the example of the MG4, which has slipped into third place in the ranking of the best-selling electric cars in Spain in 2023, with more than 3,000 units delivered at a price of about 30,000 euros, well below the two best sellers, two Tesla above 41,000 euros.
This 2024 they have taken a giant step. China enters Spain as a manufacturer of electric cars with Chery, the first Chinese automobile company that will manufacture cars in Spain, taking advantage of the facilities of the old Nissan factory in the Free Zone of Barcelona.
