The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has notified through X (formerly Twitter) that several users are receiving an SMS message in which they impersonate the institution warning that “a severe storm is expected in your region.”
ยซSome users report that they have received SMS supposedly from Aemet, accompanied by a link. It’s falseยซ, declares the organization in its profile on the aforementioned social network.
Thus, as can be seen in the image they have shared, the message in question indicates that “a severe storm is expected in your region”. “Be prepared and stay safe,” adds the SMS, which invites the user who receives it to download a supposed Aemet application through a fraudulent link.
However, as Aemet recalls, alerts are not sent to mobile phones from this meteorological organization. Thus, the alerts that have been received on previous occasions on all mobile phones in the event of an extreme weather episode are actually sent by Civil Protection.
ยซAemet never sends SMS. If you receive a similar message, do not open the link. Our APP can only be downloaded from official stores,” declares the State Meteorological Agency on its social networks.
