Platforms for selling second-hand products are booming, and within this segment, it stands out that of used clothes. Applications like Vinted are sweeping customers of all ages.
The success of this market for buying and selling used clothing reaches such a point that there are people who can afford to leave their jobs to dedicate 100% to this business.
This is the case of a young British woman, named Irem, who has told her case to the Daily Mirror: “After selling my own clothes on Depop, I started browsing charity shops because I loved finding great pieces. I did a few sales from time to time, but I continued going because I enjoyed it a lot.
Her perseverance paid off: “Sales began to increase and I became one of the best salespeople. I reached 1,000 sales in a few monthsI spent my days packing orders and decided it was time to expand my business and found some wholesale suppliers as the charity shops were no longer enough.”
Since switched to Vintedsays he has won £87,967.85 (€105,000). He now also has his own website called Past Gems.
The saleswoman has shared her five best tips on her TikTok account, where she has more than 16,000 followers. Irem’s first tip is to upload items for sale constantly in the app: “Let’s say you have 20 items to sell: upload five or four a day instead of uploading them all at once,” he explained.
He also emphasized the importance of making clear photographs of the items. A plain background helps potential buyers see items properly and “make sure the lighting is good,” Irem advised. He recommends investing in a ring light or a white background if you don’t already have one at home.
“And if you have a lot of items that aren’t selling, I would just delete them and relist them with better photos or a better description“, he adds as a third piece of advice.
The entrepreneur also pointed out that many people often overlook the use of a hashtag in each ad. “Be sure to use a hashtag in every ad”also advises.
