The established connections between Abandoned and Hideo Kojima have been generating thousands of conversations on the Internet for weeks
It is difficult that by now you have not heard something about Abandoned, that mysterious first-person horror game exclusive to PS5 that was announced with a short teaser in April 2021. In order not to bore you, I will give you the condensed version of the matter: for one series of “coincidences”, has been related to the game with the work of Hideo Kojima, and more specifically with Silent Hills. The development studio, which calls itself Blue Box, has as its most visible head a certain Hasan Kahraman (Look at the acronym: HK). Nobody knows the study, nor the profile of this developer, so fans have speculated that it could be another new marketing case in the “kojimada” plan.
If you want to know everything in detail, I recommend the article we did in the magazine. The point is that the situation seems to have become untenable, both on the part of the architects of this marketing movement and on the side of Abandoned’s own followers. Last June, the developer published a tweet in which it could be read that “the first letter is S and the last letter is L”, something that was easily related to the Silent Hill saga, on everyone’s lips after the extraordinary demo of PT and its tragic end. Blue Box deleted said tweet and made a statement denying any involvement with Hideo Kojima. But what strikes me the most is this: “It is true that we have been working on small projects in the past, but we have not used this for marketing reasons“.
There are enough coincidences to believe that Blue Box has not tried to take advantage of these connectionsActually, there are enough coincidences to believe that Blue Box has not tried to take advantage of these apparently forced connections. If this really isn’t a Kojima project, it gives the feeling that they tried to take advantage of their marketing style (see Moby Dick and The Phantom Pain hack) to promote Abandoned. Without going any further, a few weeks ago the study published an image of a man with a patch. After all the controversy generated, it was inevitable that users related this to Big Boss, Solid Snake and Metal Gear. The question is: Is it a joke or just another kojimada?. It could be one thing, the other … or both at the same time.
On the one hand, it would be a fraud if what has been hinted at over and over again is not actually offered. On the other hand, it is still a very interesting movement from a marketing point of view because without these tricks there probably wouldn’t have been so much talk about Abandoned. But this surreal case seems to be still far from over. The last straw is that the players had been summoned for this August 10. The objective? Test your app on PlayStation 5, which takes up a little over a gig. However, just yesterday Blue Box communicated on its Twitter that they had suffered a technical problem and that they would report when it was resolved.
It would be a fraud if you don’t really offer what has been hinted at over and over againAnyway, the umpteenth setback with a video game that I personally no longer know very well what to think. Without having been totally involved in his show business, one thing is clear to me, and that is that users do not deserve this degree of confusion. There is a lot of passion deposited in sagas like Silent Hill or Metal Gear to be surrounded by so much speculation, so my personal wish is that this all be resolved soon. But above all else, I wish Abandoned was something really worthwhile, whether or not Hideo Kojima is finally involved. And let the game shine by itself, not by the references it makes or what it may or may not remember …
