In sports, as in life itself, we are going to find people of very diverse natures, each with their virtues, their flaws, and their hobbies. Normally, in amateur sports, especially tennis, we can meet whoever we want to have a pleasant time practicing our favorite sport. However, when we compete, it can touch us to anyone.
To win a game, we must use ourselves thoroughly and use all the tennis tactics and resources that we have. Nevertheless, there are players who, consciously or unconsciously, carry out certain habits that can become very annoying. Next, let’s see which of those customs and behaviors are so irritating.
Exaggerated screaming
In a past post of The Magic of Tennis we already talked in detail about the screams in this sport. In that article, we commented on something very important; We should not suppress the scream if it comes naturally to us, but neither should we force it or exaggerate it. In any case, will you ever meet players who exaggerate the scream in a contrived way and you will have to deal with that annoyance, because, at our level, there is not going to be a supervisor who verifies or penalizes it for annoyance (hindrance).
Coach complex
Surely you have coincided with an opponent or partner in doubles who at each point, makes some reference to the previous point, especially when you have made a mistake. Tennis tips and conversations never hurt, but when, systematically, after failing, they start telling you what you’ve done wrong And what you should do in the next point, there comes a time when it becomes a bit irritating.
Review of all balls
We can also find the typical player who questions every ball you call out. He is always asking if you are sure he has not touched the line or even asking you to show him the pot of the ball. The atmosphere can get a bit edgy.
Winners in the warm-up
Of course, you could not miss that player with whom you start to warm up and, at the first change, he lets go of a whip without any meaning. But not to the center, but looking for the winning shot. He does not apologize and, in addition, on some occasions, you can find people who celebrate his winner in the warm-up. Seeing is believing.
Continual complaints on every mistake
Finally, I did not want to leave myself in the inkwell at player who, in every mistake he makes, self-destructs, uttering all kinds of insults and insults towards himself. A comment from time to time, in a specific error, can be made by everyone, but extreme and uninterrupted self-criticism is a real slab both for the one who makes it and for the rival who attends the show. I must admit that out of the six irritating habits we have seen today, this is the one that I usually engage in. Of course, I always apologize for the embarrassing behavior, which has no excuse whatsoever.
And you, do you feel identified with any of these attitudes?
