Without a doubt, Super Mario Bros. 3 It is considered by many to be one of the best games in this franchise. Not only did it drastically improve the level design and game mechanics, platforming from its predecessor, but also introduced new elements that would eventually become indispensable to the series. However, it also has quite frustrating levels and here we present a list of the five most difficult.
World 2: Desert Land
After the fun that was the first world of the game, comes Desert Land. The deserts in Mario’s worlds aren’t necessarily unpleasant, but Mario introduced a confusing mechanic with an angry sun that was frustratingly difficult to dodge. It’s certainly not unplayable or anything like that, and there are several entertaining levels within it, but it’s not like we have very fond memories of this desert either.
World 7: Pipeland
This world is much more fun than Desert Land, and the Piranha Plant forests and pipe mazes are a unique aspect of the game, and at times feel like a sneaky tribute to the original Mario Bros. these levels can be quite a tedious experience due to how confusing their islands are, and the verticality of certain scenarios that force you to climb to the top once again in case you fall.
World 5: Skyland
Sky Land is where the levels start to get really fun, unfortunately, there are some pretty boring ones as well. For example, the sky levels are slow and take too long to repeat every time you die. It’s definitely an interesting world, but that doesn’t mean it’s also enjoyable. Undoubtedly, there is a lot of room for improvement in this world.
World 6: Iceland
Snow levels during the NES era are possibly some of the least popular, and this world is no exception. You have slippery blocks that cause death in the face of any carelessness, in addition to the fact that the world map is merely horizontal and sometimes it can feel like infinity. Of course, graphically it is one of the best in the game and it does a great job differentiating itself from the others thanks to its color palette and soundtrack.
World 3: Water Land
If you still had energy left over after Desert Land, then you’ll be rewarded with a unique world packed with all sorts of mechanics and enemies. Many of these levels are focused on segments with swimming, but there are also others with moving platforms that give you a lot of variety. These levels also have a lot of space to explore, which in turn, also caused a lot of confusion for players who were constantly getting lost.
