“After two years you are back, America is back: there is nothing that we are not able to overcome”. This is the message of greetings for Thanksgiving that Joe Biden addressed to the Americans by connecting by telephone with the Today broadcast that followed live the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the traditional parade with floats and giant balloons that this year, marking the gradual return to normal after the pandemic, is back on the streets of New York.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, now in its 95th edition, has become one of the most anticipated events of the Thanksgiving Day. Last year, when the Covid pandemic raged and the vaccination campaign had not yet started, the parade was just a televised event, with floats parading through the deserted city.
This year, however, New Yorkers and tourists have returned to crowd the streets of Manhattan along which the floats will parade. Of course, safety protocols are applied and to participate in the parade on the floats you must be fully vaccinated, this therefore excludes children under 12, for whom the vaccination campaign has only recently begun.
The parade – in all 28 floats and 15 giant balloons – started at 9, 15 in Italy, from the Upper West Side and traveled the traditional route throughout Manhattan to the headquarters of Macy’s department stores, in Midtown, which almost a This whole New York tradition began a century ago.
