The husband of one of the teachers victims of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas, United States, died after suffering a heart attacktheir relatives confirmed.
This is Joe García, who until Tuesday lived with his wife Irma García and their four children, two men and two women between 12 and 23 years old. In addition to Irma, the teacher Eva Mireles, lost her life in the attack.
After 25 years together, it was too much to bear.
“Extremely heartbreaking, it is with deep sorrow that I communicate that my Aunt Irma’s husband, Joe Garcia, passed away due to grief, I really have no words to say how we all feel. Please pray for our family. God have mercy on us, this is not easy,” John Martinez, the teacher’s nephew, wrote on Twitter.

“I really think Joe died of a broken heart and from losing the love of his life.. After 25 years together, it was too much to bear, ”said Debra Austin, the teacher’s cousin, for her part.
To help with the expenses of both funerals, the family created a space in ‘Go Fund Me’an American crowdfunding platform, where people from all over the world can donate money with just one button.
According to the newspaper El Mundo, Irma was a finalist in 2019 along with 18 other educators from San Antonio to receive the award for excellence in teaching from Trinity University.

At 48, she was considered a “veteran” teacher, having worked with children for 23 years. The authorities confirmed that he died trying to protect his students from the gunshots..
“I want her to be remembered as someone who sacrificed her life and risked her life for her children. They weren’t just her students. Those were her children and she risked her life, she lost her life to protect them. That’s the kind of person she was,” Martinez told The Washington Post.
His Facebook profile reflected the love he had for his family. “Thank you Jesus for my amazing husband and babies,” she recently captioned a photo from a family trip.
Even a few days ago he published a teaching certificate. “I learned so many new ways to challenge my future students to be independent learners,” she wrote.

Texas on alert
On the other hand, both authorities and citizens remain alert in the southern state.
This Thursday, Donna Independent School District suspended lessons until Tuesday after receiving a “credible threat of violence”.
“Due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution, we will be canceling classes, staff will be working from home. The safety and security of our students and staff is our first priority,” the institution said in a statement.
Likewise, the authorities began the corresponding investigations to find out the origin of the alleged threat.
