The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) concluded this Friday (17) the security testing phase of the electronic voting machines that will be used in the October municipal elections. The test is a standard procedure carried out since 2009.
The tests began on Monday (13), when experts from Federal Police (PF) and the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) they began to carry out tests to verify the security of data transmission and the maintenance of the secrecy of votes. Of the 35 test plans carried out, five showed improvements in the systems, which were accepted by the court’s technicians.

According to the TSE’s Secretary of Information Technology, Júlio Valente, the tests reiterated that the Brazilian voting system is safe. For Valente, the test is an event to demonstrate the total transparency of electoral systems, with the source code of the ballot box being made available to carry out the tests.
“The public security test is a pioneering event in the world in which the Electoral Court places its systems under the scrutiny of any Brazilian”, he stated.
In the October elections, Brazilians go to the polls to elect mayors and councilors. The first round will be held on the 6th. The second round is scheduled for October 27th.
