You buy a classic American car in the first place because of the appearance, but also because of the engine. And not because of the overwhelming performance, but for the sound and the experience. Do you think that is not so important, or do you have little appetite for the high fuel consumption, then this CR-43 from the companies Revolt and EV West is an option. The American company supplies a Tesla engine in a crate that replaces the V8 engine and transmission one on one.
A simple EV conversion
Relatively simple, might be a better term. The engine mounts of the Revolt CR-43 fit those of General Motors cars, specifically the cars with a so-called small-block V8. So you don’t have to weld in the engine bay. You still have to find a good place for the batteries and connect everything. The power of the electric motor is somewhere between 500 and 600 hp. That’s a lot more than Chevrolet’s crate engine itself.
Tesla motor in a crate, also for other brands
Revolt is currently putting the Tesla engine in a classic Mustang, so rest assured there will be many more adapters in the future to fit the engine into other classic American cars. The price should be somewhere between 20,000 and 30,000 euros for the engine alone. Batteries and other electronics are included. For now, the engine is only available in America.
The EV conversion can be useful if, for example, you regularly come to city centers with your hobby car. Not all centers will be accessible with (old) fuel cars in the future. For some enthusiasts, an EV conversion will be the best of both worlds – others will say you’re amputating the soul of the car. Which side are you on?
