Tesla has not abandoned its intention to land on the Indian market, but there are still many challenges that US society has to face with the government of the Asian country. Word of Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, who as always has relied on Twitter to answer the question of when the first electric cars of the Palo Alto brand will be available in India. The South African manager did not clarify what the challenges are of which he speaks, what is certain is that the talks between the top management of Tesla and the government of the Asian country are continuing unabated.
As recalled by Autonews, Tesla had plans to start selling imported cars in India last year, and did pressure on local government to reduce import taxes on electric vehicles before they are launched on the market: for this reason last October the Palo Alto house presented its requests to the office of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tesla’s entry would be important for the premium electric vehicle segment on the Indian market: we are talking about a sector that is still in its infancy and that counts on charging infrastructure still very scarce. The numbers testify to this: only 5,000 of the 2.4 million cars sold in India last year were electric, and of these only a handful were luxury models.
