Undisputed protagonist on the electric car market, but also protagonist in courtrooms to respond to accusations of racism. Tesla’s business continues to alternate between steadily growing sales and justice that continues to run its course, after several former employees of the giant led by Elon Musk filed a complaint for being victims of racial and sexual discrimination by other workers. Given the unsustainability of the situation, two of them decided to come out, and told what prompted them to take legal action.
One of these is called Kaylen Barker, she is 25 years old and she is a homosexual African American who until a few months ago was employed in the Fremont plant in California. Today’s edition of La Stampa tells us that after having refused to sign a document in which she had to admit that she had committed an act of insubordination was fired: the act in question was that of having reported to the management of the factory the continuous insults, violence, harassment for her sexual orientation and the color of the skin she suffered from two white workers. At one point one of these two was fired, but after just two weeks he was put back in his place. Which is why Barker, with great courage, decided to sue Tesla accusing her of not having supervised by allowing homophobic and racist attitudes to continue.
A similar case to yours concerns Owen Diaz, an employee of the company between 2015 and 2016 who was targeted by colleagues because of the color of his skin. “I thought working for Tesla meant entering a modern way, instead, I found scenes worthy of the Jim Crow era“had told Diaz, who somehow saw his story confirmed by justice: a jury has in fact sentenced Tesla to pay 137 million dollars to his former employee, despite multiple rumors from the Palo Alto house reiterating that that type of Tesla no longer exists.
