Terrorism Judgments scheduled to be read at the 2015 Paris terrorist trial

Prosecutors have demanded a life sentence for the only surviving attacker, Salah Abdeslam.

In Paris the convictions for the 2015 terrorist attacks are due to be read today. More than 130 people were killed in attacks by extremist Islamic attackers on the Bataclan concert hall and bars and restaurants.

There are 20 people indicted, 14 of whom are present in court. Six are missing or presumed dead.

Main accused is the only survivor of the attackers Salah Abdeslamwho was arrested in Belgium in 2016. Others on trial are accused of varying degrees of assistance in carrying out a terrorist attack.

The other nine involved in the 2015 attack either blew themselves up or died in police bullets.

Prosecutors have demanded Abdeslam’s life sentence without the right to parole.

During the trial, Abdeslam has not denied involvement in a conspiracy tasked with attacking Paris in November 2015. Instead, he said he is not a murderer. According to Abdeslam, he gave up his job of blowing himself up at a bar in the north of Paris.

Prosecutors say the claim that Abdeslam has resigned is false. Referring to Abdeslam’s own letters and previous statements, prosecutors said the man’s suicide belt was defective, so he was unable to blow himself up.

Paris terrorist attacks were planned in Syria. The extremist organization Isis registered to be the organizer of the attacks.

The 2015 attacks were the largest peacetime bloodshed in modern French history. At the same time, they made known the threat posed by Isis.

The trial began in September last year and took place in premises specially prepared for the case at the historic Palace of Justice on the island of Ile de la Cite in Paris.
