The 70th edition of the Trento-Bondone was the scene of a terrible accident that devastated a beautiful weekend of motorsport.
At the Norge hairpin, a couple of kilometers from the arrival of the test, the BMW M3 number 141 driven by the Brescia driver Andrea Lombardi (slightly injured in the accident) went off the road, hitting a race commissioner.
The German car was approaching an uphill left-hand bend, but at the moment of braking it ended up on a tangent, without giving the driver the opportunity to try to turn.
The BMW went off the road at very high speed, overwhelming the commissioner who was just outside the roadway, outside the hairpin bend, in station number 54. The car then stopped in the vegetation of a road leading to a ‘ private residence.
The dynamics of the accident, especially linked to the reasons for the vehicle going off the road without it having hinted at turning, are still to be clarified. It is therefore impossible to exclude a priori any hypothesis, including that of mechanical failure.
Rescuers arrived in a timely manner at the scene of the accident with an ambulance and helicopter rescue, with this which transported the commissioner invested to the emergency room of the Santa Chiara Hospital.
The commissioner invested has always been conscious, albeit with various traumas in the thoracic area and lower limbs. He was operated on at the Santa Chiara Hospital to reduce his injuries. The good news is related to his state of health: the commissioner is not in danger of life.
