Pelligra Holding Italia Srl will seek to relaunch the Termini Imerese factory after the failure of negotiations with the Chinese giant Chery. The former home of Fiat should be acquired by the company headed by Ross Pelligra, an Italian-Australian entrepreneur who is currently also president of Catania FC and who signed the purchase contract for the industrial center placed under administration after the collapse of Blutec which he controlled the area from 2015 to 2019.
The conditions of Mimit on Termini Imerese
8.5 million euros were put on the table, with the promise that Pelligra will also include in the operation the hiring of some of the former Blutec employees who are currently on redundancy pay and in particular at least 350 workers out of the 566 who are on CIG. In any case, on the subject, the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy wanted to immediately clarify the methods of this purchase: “The transfer of property”we read in the Mimit note “remains conditional on the finalization of the payment of the entire sum and the authorization of the trade union organizations and local institutions, which will take place in the next few weeks as per the agreed timetable. The assignment is part of a broader project to relaunch the industrial center of Termini Imerese which concerns, in addition to the redevelopment of the industrial area, the strengthening of the port and the development of an integrated interport in the area”.
The intervention of the unions
The reaction of the unions was not long in coming either, with the comment on the possible new life of the former Fiat factory which was welcomed with caution by the social partners, who were already ready to ask for some clarifications. In the note released by Uilm, Gianluca Ficco and Vincenzo Comella, national and local secretary respectively: “We learn that the extraordinary administration has finalized the deed of transfer of the Blutec branch of Termini Imerese to Pelligra; at the same time the interest of the Chinese company Chery would have faded. We ask for an immediate convening of the table at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, to find out the industrial details and the employment implications of the sale. According to what emerged in the last meeting held at Mimit, 350 workers would be reabsorbed but perhaps only for a limited period of time. Furthermore, there remain around 180 Blutec workers for whom we are not yet clear what form of protection Mimit and the Sicily Region have prepared, as well as a few hundred related workers awaiting answers”.
