Tension between ‘Candi’, the transgender convicted of abuse, and the media at the exit of the Seville courts

Candi, as Cándido calls himself after going through the Civil Registry in the summer of 2023 for a change of registered sex, was sentenced to fifteen months in prison in 2019 for mistreating his ex-partner, who stated this Friday, at the exit of the courts, which is “disappointed”.

For his part, the lawyer of the victim of abuse, José Antonio Sires, has told journalists that the cause is the alleged threats and injuriesregarding those who have presented a report from a health center, will now move to the investigation phase and the case will predictably become an abbreviated procedure. If Candi’s complaint against his ex-wife is successful, she would be forced to sit in the dock of a Criminal Court, and face a fine or a prison sentence of up to two years.

For this lawyer, this situation is «harmful» for his client, whose emotional state is one of disaffection with Justice. In addition, he describes Candi’s maneuvers as a “tortious and delaying mechanism.”

The facts being investigated in this case have their origin in July 9. Then, according to the victim of abuse, Candi showed up at his house and attacked him. She filed a complaint with a medical report. Hours later, Candi reported her for threats and insults, including assault. And it was on July 9 when she learned that her ex-partner had changed his sex in a registered manner when he filed a complaint with the National Police. 

Candi went convicted in 2019 for mistreatment to fifteen months in prison, but has not yet entered. He was previously in prison for another previous sentence.

Recently, Court number two for Violence against Women has rejected the appeal for reform filed by Candi’s ex-partner against her decision to recuse herself in favor of the Investigative Courts due to the aforementioned sex change of this person before the events of alleged abuse and gender violence that they attribute to him. It is not the first time that this matter has passed from one court to another and vice versa.
